Breast Health International has established a Fund for Living program in Philadelphia area hospitals.

The program provides assistance to women with breast cancer and their families, helping cover unique problems associated with their care that may not be covered by traditional insurance. BHI provides the medical centers with the resources for these special needs; these resources are then dispensed to patients as needed. The types of hardship problems the program is designed to cover may include, but are not restricted to, the following:

• Home Care (visiting nurse of home health care worker) on the first few days following discharge from the hospital for surgery or invasive diagnostic procedures.
• Child Care to permit patients to keep their appointments for invasive diagnosis procedures or surgery.
• Transportation to/from the hospital for diagnostic or surgical procedures, radiation therapy or chemotherapy treatments.
• Non-covered medications for pain or nausea following treatment.
• Hair Replacement (wig) during chemotherapy if not otherwise covered.
• Skin Care during radiation treatments, if not otherwise covered.
• Mastectomy Prosthesis, if not otherwise provided.
• Other Unique situations that may arise on a case-by-case basis.

Each participating hospital administers its own “Fund for Living.”
